Reading.....is for everyone!

Writer: Anshul LallAnshul Lall

My book recommendations:

If there's anything I can assign credit to my change in perspective on life; it has to be BOOKS.

Yes, I know I run the risk of sounding nerdy and geeky, but that's the story of my life friend! Books are truly one's best friend and they certainly have proved to be mine. And don't think I have started only recently and have begun preaching about books. I have been a reader all my life. But I have never been this consistent, I have to admit. The real deal began with books in 2018 when I was at a really low point in my life health wise and I wanted some peace of mind. And I found that in books; and not just peace of mind; I found something profound. A purpose in life. Yeah, I know that sounds philosophical, but you have got to really experience it to believe it.

Anyways, here is where I am sharing some of my favorite books (in no particular order) that have got me to gain new perspective on things, learn something exceptionally fresh and novel and got me to take action in one or the other areas of my then life!

I have a belief that if you read at least two to three books from this list, you would really see a paradigm shift in your way of thinking and will stay a lot motivated than you perhaps usually do.

1: The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy:

Genre: Business & Career

I am starting with the one which I have read at least thrice already. This is a fantastic book that will introduce you to the concept of ‘compounding’. Yeah, I hear you saying; “But that sounds mathematical and brings back the horrors of having to learn Math in school”. My answer is “No”. It’s about the concept of exponential growth by taking consistent steps in the direction of your goal. If you want to expand your horizon by adding this beautiful concept in almost every area of your life; then just grab this book today. And by the way, before I forget to mention let me just say it’s a really short book. Once you are invested you will finish it in no time.

2: Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert:

Genre: Self Help

Alright, so this one talks to the creator inside you who you tend to quiet down every time you have an idea to create something, anything. There are many reasons such as fear, uncertainty, doubt in your own creativity, laziness etc. The author just begins the book by diving straight into the deepest emotion that hinders one’s creativity and that is “FEAR”. She talks about how a creative idea travels from one person to another in search of the one who can manifest it into reality. This book can truly motivate you to start engaging in your passions for real and find that peace you want and perhaps in your quest you might end up introducing the world with something so amazing that can alter their lives for the better!

3: Essentialism by Greg McKeown

Genre: Politics & Social Sciences

‘Essentialism’ as the word suggests is the art of filtering out that which is absolutely essential to focus on. The author introduces the concept and explains us how we can be mindful in every area of our lives to select our priorities and focus on accomplishing those first. He later also speaks about the importance of saying ‘No’ politely and also details the things that should be considered a priority to have a better life. Also, from this book; I learnt the importance of a sound sleep. Yes, that’s correct. If you want to learn how to apply essentialism in your work and personal life; grab this book and begin your journey to impeccable wisdom!

4: The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason

Genre: Money & Finance

This is one of the most recommended books on personal finance around the world. It is safely a classic and the principles mentioned in this book are relevant even in this day and age. The most renowned principle of this book is to “Pay you first”. When I began reading this book; it took me some time adjusting to the language of the book. But once I got accustomed, I learnt a lot from it about how to manage the money you earn and how you can grow it. If you are someone who loves short stories and parables; then you will certainly enjoy this book. And if you really want to understand some awesome concepts on money management and growth, I encourage you to buy this book a.s.a.p.

5: How to win friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie

Genre: Parenting & Relationships, Self Help

Although the title is self-explanatory; allow me to discuss the joy I had while reading this book. So, I am a people centric person and I enjoy talking to people and getting to know them. But I never thought that there is a science behind building good relations with people and having long term sustained relations with them. This book introduced me to those concepts and made me more aware of how I should speak to people and connect better. In my personal and professional experience one thing I have definitely understood, that your success and peace of mind is direct correlated to the quality of relationship you share with the people around you. So, in order to master the art of communicating with people effectively and leave a positive impression of you in their hearts and minds; do study this book. It’s highly recommended by all industry experts. Get your copy now!

All great world leaders are readers, and if you are someone who aspires to become an achiever yourself, you need to start your journey with books soon. However, this is just some of the books from the top of my head. I will keep adding to this list so you always can come and check out what’s next to pick and start reading!

Hope you have an awesome learning experience just like I had.

Regards,

Anshul
